Bangladesh Players Wanted to Play T20 World Cup in India

Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain after reports revealed that players were not considered before the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided against travelling to India for the tournament. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to start from February 07, 2026, in India and Sri Lanka.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, several senior Bangladesh players, including T20 captain Litton Das, were in favour of playing the T20 World Cup 2026 in India. However, they were not fully informed about the BCB’s boycott decision and many players in the Bangladesh squad are disappointed with how the situation was handled by the board.

Players Left Unhappy After Meeting

As per media reports, a meeting was held between Bangladesh players, BCB officials and the country’s sports adviser Asil Nazrul. Players reportedly believed that the discussion would allow them to put their views on the instance of the board, but they were told that the call had already been taken.

A senior Bangladesh cricketer on the current situation, “The meeting was not called to take our conset. We were only informed about what had already been decided. Our opinions did not matter. They didn’t ask us. They told us it’s not happening. Earlier, they used to listen to us, but the government’s call was already made.”

Both T20 captain Litton Das and Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto are said to have clearly conveyed that the team was prepared to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Despite this, the Bangladesh Cricket Board stood firm on its stance and refused to play in India due to security concerns.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board stood firm, and their decision is based on safety concerns for players, staff and fans. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already said that there are no credible security threats to Bangladesh’s participation in India. This incident has led to growing tensions between the ICC and the BCB.

Government Influence on the BCB’s stance

Many reports from the Bangladesh media claimed that the decision was heavily influenced by the national government, whose diplomatic relations with India are currently not in a good state. Bangladesh’s players believe that the BCB’s current stance is more aligned with the government’s position rather than with sports.
