R Ashwin: The second Test of the series between India and West Indies is currently taking place at the Queen’s Park in Port of Spain in Trinidad. The game holds great value as it marked the 100th Test between two games. The series stands at 1-0 with visitors in the lead and they would be hoping for a complete whitewash.
India was asked to bat first and on account of magnificent ton by Virat Kohli (121) and fifties by Rohit Sharma (80), Yashasvi Jaiswal (57), Ravindra Jadeja (61) and R Ashwin (56) kept them in the game as they posted a total of 438 runs on the board.
With the ball, India came under a bit of pressure as the West Indies batter showed great grit with skipper Kraigg Braithwaite leading from the front. The opening batter played some solid strokes and made sure that his teams gets a good start.
With the way Kraigg Braithwaite was batting something out of the box was needed to remove and Ravichandran Ashwin did exactly that. The off-spinner produced a snorter that even left the batter surprised as it arguably was the best ball of the game.
It was in the 73rd over when R Ashwin bowled a ball up front which turned sharply and went through the gate. Kraigg Brathwaite tried to defend but missed the line of the delivery only to see his stump rattling.
Here’s the video:
Notably, R Ashwin has troubled Kraigg Brathwaite quite a few times. This was for the 7th time he removed him in the Tests. The batter has managed just 150 runs against the off-spinner and has an average of 21.42.
