How can India Women qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 after loss to Australia?
Australia continued their dominance in the WODIs against India as they beat the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side by three wickets in the 13th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. In what was a thriller at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Australia won the toss and put India into bat.
India were off to a brutal start with the bat as openers in Pratika Rawal (75) and Smriti Mandhana (80) were all over the Australian bowlers. They hardly put a foot wrong and attacked the frontline bowlers, adding 155 runs for the opening stand.
After their record-breaking stand, Harleen Deol (38) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (22) played vital hands, taking the team past 230. Later, Jemimah Rodrigues (33) and Richa Ghosh (32) tried to carry on the momentum but lost their wickets at the crucial juncture following their 54-run partnership.
India failed to finish the innings on a high note but still managed 330 on the board. For Australia, Annabel Sutherland bagged five wickets.
Australia then came up with an even better effort with the bat in the chase. Openers in Alyssa Healy (142) and Phoebe Litchfield (40) took Indian bowlers to the cleaners, utilising power play to the full extent. The duo added 85 runs for the opening partnership and soon after that, Ellyse Perry (47*) joined skipper Healy as they added 69 runs together before the all-rounder walked back due to cramps.
India then made a slight comeback with quick wickets. However, Healy was unfazed by it as she kept hitting Indian bowlers all over the park, slamming a brutal century. The captain along with Ashleigh Gardner (45) put India under immense pressure with their 95-run stand. There was a twist in the tale yet again as India picked wickets quickly to pull back the things.
But Perry returned and played a brilliant hand to take her team home with three wickets in hand. Australia chased the target with one over to spare, registering the highest ever chase in WODIs.
How can India Women qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 after loss to South Africa?
Following the loss, there has been a wide speculation as to how India Women qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 after losing to Australia. In this article, we will take a look at how the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side can qualify.
The equation for the Indian women is in their hands currently. They have three more games left in the tournament against England, New Zealand and Bangladesh. If they win all three, they get 10 points and will easily qualify for the semi-final.
If they lose one game out of their three, they will still have a chance as they will need to win their last two games with a big margin to have a massive NRR. If they lose games, they will be out of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
