Delay in Samson-Jadeja Deal: Rajasthan Royals Struggle With Foreign Player Limit, Big Names on Release Radar

The Sanju Samson - Ravindra Jadeja trade deal between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might get a little delay due to foreign player limitations and budget issues in the Rajasthan camp. As per the reports from Cricbuzz, the addition of Sam Curran in the deal has created a major hurdle, which might have put this trade at risk.
It was going to be a 2 for 1 swap deal between CSK and RR, Sanju Samson moving to Chennai Super Kings, whereas Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran were about to join the Rajasthan Royals. However, the problem is that Rajasthan already has eight overseas players in the squad, which is the maximum allowed by any team.
This means the Rajasthan Royals cannot do this trade unless they release one of their existing foreign players. This is not only the issue; they also have Rs. 30 Lakh left in their purse, and Sam Curran has the price tag of Rs. 2.4 crore.
Since Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson both had the same price tag of Rs. 18 crore so it was going to be a balanced deal in terms of money but the addition of Sam Curran adds additional purse requirement for Rajasthan Royals, but they are short in the budget.
However, It is expected that Rajasthan Royals will first release players and then they will sign this deal with Chennai Super Kings. Like the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans did when they traded Hardik Pandya, both teams announced their retained and released players list, but after a few hours, the deal was signed.
Who would be released?
As per the reports, Rajasthan Royals might release two Sri Lankan star spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, to increase the purse and a foreign player slot. Hasaranga was bought at a price of Rs. 5.25 crore, and Theekshana was bought at a price of Rs. 4.4 crore in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Samson-Jadeja deal After Retention:
As per the reports, the trade between Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja isn’t possible as of now; it is expected that the trade will be done after the November 15 retention deadline.
