Australian Test skipper Tim Paine seems to be impressed with Virat Kohli as he reckons that the Indian skipper is the best batsman in the world right now and is capable of getting under anyone’s skin too quickly to take the game away from you.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his Aussie counterpart Tim Paine share an unusual relationship of verbal spats on the field which came after the 2018-2019 Australia tour. Besides the cricketing action between the two teams, Virat and Paine’s heated arguments was an interesting sub-plot of the historic showdown.

“For Virat Kohli, I’ve said many times, he seems like the type of player you would love to have on your team. He is competitive. He is the best batsman in the world,” the 36-year-old Paine said on the ‘Gilly and Goss’ podcast.

“He (Kohli) is challenging to play against and he can get under your skin because he is so good and he is so competitive.

“But yeah, for me from where I came from, sharing a feud with him four years ago, He is certainly someone I will always remember,” he added.

It is interesting to note that, Paine during the India-Australia Test series 2020-21 said that Virat is “just another player” to him and his presence on the field “doesn’t really bother him.”

The 36-years old cricketer further stated that the Australian team loves to hate Virat for his outstanding abilities with the bat and his supreme shot-play.

After the triumph of 2018-19 against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian outfit once again managed to seal the India-Australia 2020-21 four games Test series with 2-1 despite being injury-ravaged. Most of the senior players from the visiting team had to sit out due to multiple injury concerns, however, the grit and resilience shown by the young guns proved why India is a formidable outfit to defeat.

Paine recently made a controversial statement regarding India’s win in the recent Australia tour. He said that the outside chatter of the Indian team’s niggling distracted his players. However, later the Aussie skipper clarified that he was not making any excuses.
