Indian pacer Mohammad Shami takes his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine.



Indian senior pacer Mohammad Shami on Thursday took his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine in Mumbai while he was under quarantine <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/citing-security-reasons-india-denies-travelling-to-pakistan-for-the-upcoming-champions-trophy-matches-are-to-be-shifted-to-dubai/" title="for the upcoming" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">for the upcoming</a> England tour. The Indian contingent is currently undergoing their two weeks hard quarantine before heading out to the UK for as many as six test games.



Mohammad Shami is also named in India?s test squad that will travel to the UK.

Apart from him, Ravi Shastri, who was celebrating his 59th birthday yesterday was amongst the first ones from the India team to take the vaccine shot. Shastri was inoculated in the first week of March.



Several other members of the Indian outfit are also vaccinated with the first doses. The likes of skipper Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant took their shot before going into the quarantine in Mumbai.



The BCCI had earlier asked all the Indian players to take the Covishield vaccine, which is a version of Oxford AstraZeneca. The vaccine will be available in England so that the players can get their second doses there.



?Covishield is a version of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine available in England. This will help the BCCI to administer the second dose to the players in England,? a BCCI source had said.



India will take on <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/ind-vs-nz-2-changes-india-might-make-for-the-3rd-test-against-new-zealand-check-out-for-full-details/" title="New Zealand" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">New Zealand</a> in the summit clash ICC World Test Championship on June 18. Thereafter the Indian contingent will have a month-long break before locking horns against England in a five games test series.

BCCI likely to reduce venues for upcoming West Indies tour of India due to covid: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to reduce the venues of the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies due to the rapid upsurge in the covid cases across the country. West Indies will tour India for three matches ODI series and three matches T20I series, starting February 6th.



The third wave of coronavirus has begun wreaking havoc in India. The cases on daily basis are taking a huge spike. In the last 24 hours, India reported 1,41,986 covid cases. Owing to the situation, several state governments have introduced curbs and curfews to prevent the further spreading of the dreaded virus.



The six white-ball matches against West Indies are currently scheduled to be held in six different venues across India. However, the prevailing situation may force the BCCI to rethink and prompt the cricket board to reduce the number of venues.



With excessive travel plans, the players will be at high risk of getting infected with the virus. However, this can be prevented by minimising travel.



?Nothing has been decided as of now. This is a fluid situation and we are keeping an eye on the situation, and we will take a call at the appropriate time,? a senior BCCI official told PTI.

The BCCI might curtail the number of venues and host the West Indies white ball series in just three stadiums.



As of now, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram are scheduled to host the respective ODI and T20I matches.



West Indies squad will undergo a three days isolation after their arrival in Ahmedabad. The BCCI may also increase the isolation period for the West Indies players to sharply protect the players.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of team India has tested positive for COVID-19. His availability during the initial stage of the Asia Cup is doubtful. BCCI confirmed the news through a press release on Tuesday, 23rd August. Mr. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms.&nbsp;He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in UAE on 23rd&nbsp;August 2022."



In his absence, National Cricket Academy (NCA) director VVS Laxman may take over the reins of the Indian team.

India will face Pakistan on 28th August in Dubai, UAE. And India's second match is against the qualifier team on 31st August.

In a big relief for the cricket boards and players, the Australian Government and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have decided to allow players to take the field even if they have returned covid-positive in the ongoing ICC Men?s <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/womens-t20-world-cup-final-2024-full-squads-probable-playing11s-and-pitch-report-of-dubai-international-cricket-stadium/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> 2022.



Moreover, the ICC has made covid-19 testing flexible and isn?t mandatory for players. Importantly, this will be the first time since covid-19 broke out that international cricket matches will be held without the prior routine testing of players.



However, a certain set protocol will have to be followed in case a player infected with covid-19 takes part in the matches. The player?s presence on the field will be subject to the approval of the medical team and the concerned cricketer will have to wear a mask and maintain a safe distance from his teammates.



Earlier this very precedent was set when Australian Women?s cricketer Tahila McGrath took the field during Commonwealth Series against India despite testing covid positive.



Notably, team management can opt for a replacement in case a player has tested covid positive and he can return to the squad once he shows a negative report.

The Aussie government had imposed multiple covid-restrictions in the past. There were multiple rounds of testing and quarantine-related protocols that were required to be followed by each team before playing in Australia. However, they have become the first nation to initiate a new normal of playing without mandatory covid testing.



Ironically, the Australian government had earlier banned tennis player Novak Djokovic from participating in the Australian Open as he refrained from getting vaccinated.



<h2>T20 World Cup 2022 has begun:</h2>



The eighth edition of the Men?s <a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/womens-t20-world-cup-semifinal-schedule-venues-timing-and-more-details-2024/" title="T20 World Cup" class="auto-internal-link" data-auto-link="1" data-link-type="suggestion" data-rule-id="0">T20 World Cup</a> began yesterday with two qualifying fixtures. In the first match, Namibia took on Sri Lanka and sealed the game by 55 runs while in the second encounter UAE were up against Netherland in which the latter got off the line with 3 wickets.



Meanwhile, the warm-up matches for already qualifying teams will also start today i.e., 17th October. Four practice games will be staged today - INDvsAUS, NZvsSA, ENGvsPAK, AFGvsBAN - in Brisbane.?
