ENGvsNZ: New Zealand regular skipper Kane Williamson will be missing the last test against England, starting tomorrow, due to a left elbow injury. Opening batsman Tom Latham will lead the side in Williamson’s absence, informed Gary Stead, New Zealand coach.

Batsman Will Young will replace Kane Williamson in the playing11.

The Kiwi coach informed that Williamson has been managing the niggle in his left elbow since March and the management wanted him to have some free time so that he can heal better before the crown clash against India.

New Zealand will take on hosts England in the second test at Birmingham, starting 10th June.

“It’s not an easy decision for Kane to have to miss a Test, but we think it’s the right one,” Stead said.

Stead revealed that the cricketer takes an injection to get rid of the irritation caused by the niggle when he comes to bat.

“He’s had an injection in his elbow to relieve the irritation he’s been experiencing when he bats and a period of rest and rehabilitation will help maximise his recovery.

“The decision has been made very much with the ICC World Test Championship Final at Southampton in mind and we are confident he will be ready for that match starting on June 18.”

Stead also informed that spinner Mitchell Santner will also miss the test as he had a cut on his left index finger.

Trent Boult, who joined the squad a couple of days ago after completing his quarantine, will also come into the side replacing one of the pacers amongst Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson and Niel Wagner.
