India vs England Test: TV Umpire decision coming to focus after a poor decision in the second test.

India vs England Test: Indian TV Umpire Anil Chaudhary had a forgettable day at the work as he makes blunder with his decisions. Although the decision to give Rohit Sharma not out on a stumping is debatable but the call to keep Ajinkya Rahane not out was absurd.

On day 1 of the second test, Jack Leach bowled the 75th over and his second ball struck to Rahane’s pad and carried to Ollie Pope at short leg, brushing the glove on its way through. The on-field umpire Virendra Sharma called it a not out to which England instantly asked for a review.

Anil Chaudhary, the TV Umpire checked the ultra edge and there was clearly a spike, told his colleague to stay with his original decision. England skipper Joe Root was not convinced with the decision and insisted to check for the glove part. This time, though, Chaudhary checked if it were a valid case for a leg-before, which England never appealed for. Later after the replays showed, it was clearly visible that the ball brushed off the glove and carried it to Ollie Pope. England DRS was reinstated, due to a blunder by the TV umpire.

“We were trying to get the third umpire to roll it through, they were checking the LBW. We knew that would have been not out. We were just trying to get them looking at what happened after the ball hit the pad,” Leach said after the day’s play.

India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was later removed by Moeen Ali.

Rohit Sharma stumping blunder:

The decision of Rohit Sharma’s stumping also didn’t go in England’s favour as the Indian opener got the benefit of the doubt. Rohit was batting on 159 when the stumping shout came and no part of batsman’s foot was found behind the line when checked from the different angles. Although the decision can be debatable as umpire had to make s tough call there.

Apart from these two incidents, the Umpiring standards have been good, Nitin Menon who is also in the ICC Elite Panel has been brilliant with his decisions so far.
