BCCI Agrees On Gambhir's Demand | Sitanshu Kotak Appointed As Indian Senior Men's Team As It's Batting Coach

BCCI Agrees to Gambhir's Demand, Appoints Sitanshu Kotak as Batting Coach

The Indian cricket team is set to strengthen its support staff as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to appoint Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach. This addition follows head coach Gautam Gambhir's request during a review meeting, which included captain Rohit Sharma. The move comes after India's recent struggles with the bat against New Zealand and Australia, where the team suffered six defeats in eight matches.

Kotak, currently the India A head coach, will join the team starting from the home series against England, comprising five T20Is and three ODIs. His appointment is expected to address India's batting issues and provide specialized guidance to the players.

Who is Sitanshu Kotak?

Early Life and Domestic Career

Born on October 19, 1972, in Rajkot, India, Sitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak is a former Saurashtra captain and a prolific domestic cricketer. Over a first-class career spanning two decades (1992-2013), Kotak scored 8,061 runs in 130 matches, averaging 41.76 with 15 centuries and 55 half-centuries.

Transition to Coaching

After retiring in 2013, Kotak transitioned into coaching, completing Level 1 and 2 certifications from the BCCI and ECB. His journey began as the Saurashtra team coach, where he led the team to notable successes, including a Ranji Trophy victory in 2020.

In 2019, Kotak took over as the head coach of the India A team, succeeding Rahul Dravid. Under his guidance, the team toured Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa, showcasing commendable performances. Kotak also served as the assistant coach for Gujarat Lions during IPL 2016 and 2017 and as a batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Recent Role and Expectations

As part of the Indian coaching setup, Kotak will work alongside a talented support staff that includes:

Morne Morkel (Bowling Coach)

Abhishek Nayar (Assistant Coach, specializing in batting)

Ryan ten Doeschate (Assistant Coach)

T Dilip (Fielding Coach)

While Abhishek Nayar focuses on batting improvements, Kotak’s addition as the dedicated batting coach fills a vital gap in the team's strategy. His vast experience in domestic cricket and coaching is expected to bring stability and renewed confidence to India’s batting lineup.

This decision marks another strategic step by the BCCI to strengthen the team's performance and support Gambhir's vision for the future.
