Bangladesh Cricket in Big Trouble: Players Set to Lose Indian Sponsors
Bangladesh cricket will face a serious financial challenge as several top Bangladeshi players are likely to lose their sponsorship deals with Indian companies.
Bangladesh cricket will face a serious financial challenge as several top Bangladeshi players are likely to lose their sponsorship deals with Indian companies. According to reports, Indian sports equipment manufacturer SG has decided not to continue its partnership with Bangladeshi cricketers amid rising cricketing and diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh.
SG currently sponsors some of Bangladesh’s leading players, including skipper Litton Das, Yasir Rabbi, and former test captain Mominul Haque. Bangladeshi players haven’t received any official notice from the company, but their agents have been informed that contact is unlikely to be renewed.
A Big Crisis Coming for Bangladesh Cricket:
Bangladesh wouldn’t get highly impacted with the sponsorship with players, but the business side of sport is likely to have a huge impact if the tensions between India and Bangladesh are not resolved. ICC ruled out the issue of venue change by Bangladesh, and if they didn’t participate, the points would be automatically distributed.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to ban the streaming of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which may lose hundreds of crores, as T Sports holds the IPL’s Bangladesh rights, and they have a contract with BCCI, which runs till 2027.
Major companies like Dabur, Hindustan Unilever and Nestle and Mahindra are some of the key advertisers for T Sports in Bangaldesh during the live broadcasting or streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL). Therefore, they might face a heavy pullout from some of these companies.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Mustafizur Rahman from the squad at the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested ICC to move Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka, but the ICC refused to shift their T20 World Cup 2026 matches to some other venues outside India. The Indian government has stated that full security will be provided to all participating teams, including Bangladesh. It will be interesting to see whether Bangladesh will come to India or they will skip the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is all set to start from February 07, 2026.
