India's qualification scenario for the World Test Championship final if Brisbane Test gets washed out
The ICC World Test Championship final is keeping many excited. India, Australia and South Africa are three of the top contenders to make it into the summit clash of the tournament, which will take place at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London next year.
South Africa, after their staggering performances in Test cricket, have almost sealed their place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. They are at the top of the table and just need one win to make it into the final of the Test Championship.
With the way things are panning out, it's fair to say that winners of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be taking on South Africa in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Both India and Australia have a fair chance to reach the final, but it's safe to say that Pat Cummins-led side has a bit more chance.
Australia are No.2 at the WTC points table, while India is at the No.3 spot. The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is currently levelled at 1-1 and both the teams are currently locking horns with each other in the third match of the series, which is taking place at the Gabba in Brisbane.
The first day of the Gabba Test was washed out due to rain and there are chances of rain on the other four days as well. If the game gets washed out, then it will be a massive blow for the Indian team in the context of the ICC World Test Championship.
How can India qualify for ICC World Test Championship final if Brisbane Test gets washed out
If the games washed out, it means India and Australia will be sharing points. Then, the road of the Rohit Sharma-led side to reach the final gets tough. To get the direct qualification, they need to then win the remaining two games in Melbourne and Sydney.
However, if India manages to win one game and draw the other to earn a place in the final, they would want Sri Lanka to win at least one of the two Test matches against Australia. But if they lose one match then things would get tough.
India would then want Pakistan to win their two-match series against South Africa in January by a margin of 2-0, or for Sri Lanka to defeat Australia by a margin of 2-0.
